Sharpless 2-106 Nebula, Hubble Space Telescope (December 6, 2011)

Celestial Snow Angel

Are there angels in heaven?
NASA's Hubble Space Telescope
has found one in our Milky Way

nearly 2000 light-years away
from us— a bipolar star-forming
region called Sharpless 2-106

out of this world— looking like
a soaring celestial snow angel
with bright blue outstretched wings

from the central star. These twin lobes
of super-hot gas contrast sharply
against the colder medium backdrop.

Plato visualized the Lambda shape Λ
when God created Soul of the Universe
that's found in every step we make

and every breath we take as well
as on the top of coast redwoods
and when galaxies come in collision.

Plato would be so happy to see
the Lambda shape Λ now shining
in this celestial snow angel.
