One Plum Blossom

One Plum Blossom
Ortega Ave (2-5-2014)

A row of bare trees
as I walk down the street—
Ah! a single plum blossom.

In my rush to catch
the bus didn't have time
to take a photograph.

It's a bit windy
and I recall Shelley's
"Ode to the West Wind"

"If Winter comes,
can Spring be far behind?"

a call for the great spirit.

Arriving at the lab,
a friend had sent me
email with this haiku—

"Daffodils are up.
Scent of flowers fills the air.
It feels like spring."

Four days later
I return to the street
for the lone blossom photo

but Nature waits for no one—
the plum blossom is not alone
as hundreds more had bloomed.
