80th Birthday Cake

80th Birthday Celebration

How time flies— I'm 80 today!
Quatre-vingts is 80 in French,
came from China to America
to study, work, and play.

Here are my favorite artists
and what they did at age 80—
to inspire us that we too can be
creative as time marches onward.

At 80, Plato completed
his Dialogues of Socrates
on philosophical wisdom
to guide us for a lifetime.

At 80, Goethe would finish
his magnum opus Faust: Part II
in two more years with "Eternal
Feminine leading us above"
.

At 80, Hokusai still prolific
painting lions, dragons, waves,
and Mt. Fuji— each dot & line
having a life of its own.

At 80, Henry Moore had a large
exhibition at Kensington Gardens
of sculptures & works in progress—
reclining figures and "The Arch".

At 80, Pablo Casals married
his 20-year-old pupil Marta,
playing cello music of Bach
& 1961 White House performnce.

At 80, Buckminster Fuller
published Synergetics— met him
at age 86 when he signed "the brain
is temporal but the Mind is eternal".

Spent a week with 80-year-old sage
Paul Brunton in Vevey living in peace
& harmony— may I share this vision
on my birthday and everyday to come.
