"Tao Te Yuin Kuang Hsiang"
"Tao of Virtue Grants Light of Bliss"
My great grandfather wrote this poem
for our family tree's middle names.
Asked my Dad "What's the 5-word poem
before this illuminating message.
After some hesitation he wrote down
on a 3x5 inch paper I just found
"Wen Chang Hua Kuo Chia"
"Literary essays glorify country home"
Can't see connections between the two poems
and need to contemplate more on its meaning.
Half of China's ideogram Chung Hua Min Kuo
is in this poem, Wen Chang for literary essays
attracts me reading humanities and writing,
and Chia for home is the abode for peace.
Took an hour to find Chinese ideograms
for this five-word poem listed above,
and locating an Icelandic postage stamp
showing book lit by lamp was a delight.
May I seat in a rocking chair on the porch
of a country home, bathed in sunlight
reading Dante's Paradiso, enjoying
literature uplifting my mind to the stars.
