Soul on Mars

Seven months of 300 million miles
journey and Preseverance Rover
is making a landing on Mars.

Called the "Red Planet"
named after the Roman God
of War, reeking of blood.

My first audio file on the web
was Gustav Holst's The Planets
with war drum beats from Mars.

On last day of 10th International
Biochemistry Conference in
Hamburg (July 25-31, 1976),

Alex Rich treated the audience
with NASA video showing first
image of the Martian surface.

No canals touted by Schiaparelli
nor little green aliens found,
just a bleak barren landscape.

H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds
inspired Orson Welles' broadcast
of a panicky Martian invasion.

Is there water on Mars?
Microbial life at the ice caps?
Rover scoops up dirt for analysis.

Watching Rover's landing video
I spot the Platonic Lambda Λ—
"Soul of the Universe" on Mars.
