Nat King Cole singing "Unforgettable" (1952) |
Nat King Cole "Unforgetable" Album |
Preface: For Song #42, I've selected "Unforgettable".
This is a popular song written by Irving Gordon. Song's original working title was "Uncomparable"; however, music publishing company asked Gordon to change it to "Unforgettable". The song was published in 1951. The most popular version of the song was recorded by Nat King Cole in 1951 from his album Unforgettable (1952), with an arrangement written by Nelson Riddle. A non-orchestrated version of the song recorded in 1952 is featured as one of the seven bonus tracks on Cole's 1998 CD reissue of 1955's otherwise completely instrumental album, Penthouse Serenade. On March 30, 1961, Nat King Cole recorded the tune anew in a stereo version (with Ralph Carmichael and his Orchestra) of the Riddle arrangement, for the album The Nat King Cole Story (1961). Nat Cole's original recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000. In 1991, Elvis Presley's musical director Joe Guercio created a duet with his daughter, Natalie. The remixed version won three awards at 34th Annual Grammy Awards (1992): Song of the Year, Record of the Year & Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance. Lyrics |
Unforgettable That's what you are, Unforgettable Tho' near or far. Like a song of love that clings to me, How the thought of you does things to me. Never before Has someone been more... Unforgettable In every way, And forever more That's how you'll stay. That's why, darling, it's incredible That someone so unforgettable Thinks that I am Unforgettable, too. [interlude] Unforgettable In every way, And forever more That's how you'll stay. That's why, darling, it's incredible That someone so unforgettable Thinks that I am Unforgettable, too. © Peter Y.
