Assignment 2 for LINC 58: Project-Based Learning's Module 2 Challenge is on
Research & Information Literacy. The 2:05 Video "Information Literacy in the Real World" by Vanessa Garofalo, tells that information is at our fingertips. But with the abundant information, we could be misled and absorb fake news. So it's important to check the source and make sure they are scholarly and reliable. Cavada's Internet Class 2 covered Fake News & Credible Sources (27 & 28). We need to go to multiple sources (Newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, Google Scholar Search) to verify information. Distinguish Fact (News stories) from Opinion (OP-ED articles). In finding credible sources, we need to check for Authority, Accuracy, Coverage, Currency, and Objectivity. Is the web page done by a high school student with no expertise, or by a professor with years of published research on the topic? Google Scholar links only to academic peer-reviewed journals, filtering out unreliable sources. "How to spot fake news?" articles are covered by Internattional Federaton of Library Association (IFLA), FactCheck.org, and Harvard Summer School. Second part of Challenge is Proposal Template: Genius Hour from Google Docs. |

In Module 2 Discussion on "Genius Hour", I noted that "Hour" implied passage of time, past-present-future, and linked to writings about time from enlightened sages who abide in eternity. Included my poem "Timelessness" (1993) with Computer Graphics of transcending time. Forgot to cite my poem "Why Watches Are Set to 10:09" (1990) linked here. When this poem was written in 1990, Netscape web browser (Dec. 1994) was not around yet. Didn't have a picture with my poem back then. Now with Google Images, it's simple to round up watches with 10:09 displayed as shown above. Just read an interesting article "Here's why the Apple Watch always shows the time as 10:09 in advertisements" (By Steven Tweedle, Business Insider, 3-10-2015) Rolex loves 10:10:31, TAG Heuer prefers 10:10:37, and Bell & Ross always opts for uniformity with 10:10:10. Timex, one of the few watchmakers who deviate from the 10:10 norm, displays the time 10:09:36. Displaying at 10:09:00, allow Apple to consider itself "ahead of the times" with the Apple Watch. At 10:09, the hands would be much closer to symmetrical perfection.
