Received Emails from Best Poet &
Best Fiction Writer on the Same Day

We hate spam emails cluttering
our Inbox with ads everyday.
Yahoo Mail has a nice filter—
"Select All" and all spams deleted.

On February 11, 2010— fished out
from Spam Box— email from JCO
of Princeton sent at 3:29 am—
Joyce Carol Oates— most prolific.

fiction writer since Honoré Balzac—
Sent my poem "You Can't Catch Me"
with 84 titles from her books
showing spiritual sides of her works.

Oates wrote: "very nice to hear from you,
I remember our brief but spirited
conversation" referring to her
Stanford Colloquium on November 10.

Another February 11 email came.
at 11:25 am from Kay Ryan—
U.S. Poet Laureate (2008-2010),
Pulitzer Prize & MacArthur Fellow (2011),

whom I regard as best current poet,
taking her 2010 Stanford Workshops
telling her to call me "Peter Rabbit".
"You're no rabbit but Peter the Rock!"

Emailed Kay to print out my 5-page essay
"Poetry & Prayer" homework at 75%
so poems & images will not be cropped.
Kay wrote: "Would you please print this out

and give it to me when I return next week?"
I did so, and Kay signed The Best of It book
"for Peter my exceptional student at Stanford
and an exceptional man"— such joy to treasure!
