This Is the Sage

  Paul Brunton (1898-1981)

The sage is one with all—
everyone is himself
for there is no other
to cause him hurt or harm.

He can soar like a hawk
or crawl like tiny ants—
play in this cosmic show
displayed by the World Mind.

The sage has compassion
feeling others' distress
as his own, helping them
that their troubles will pass.

He's humble— lying low
Spirit of the Valley,
like the uncarved block,
the female and the babe.

The sage is without age
lives in the eternal—
we feel at home with him
being in heavenly peace.

He is beyond yoga—
always in stillness
with skill in action
and everything gets done.

The sage returns as a
Bodhisattva to teach
us about our true Self—
we're not finite ego

but the Infinite Mind—
so step up and enter
this wonderful garden
to enjoy the beauty.
