What Is This Monkey Thinking?

Eyes closed, left hand on tree stump,
right hand on head, deep in thought—
What is this monkey thinking?
Jumped into his thought-stream

and saw he's too tired
playing the music box
collecting coins for
vendor at the mall.

He has seen "The Thinker"
at Papua New Guinea Garden
and Rodin's "The Thinker"
at Cantor Art Museum.

Now he's wondering—
"How come they don't
have a place for me?
What must I do to be here?

I'm always learning
like Curious George
reading books nonstop
fiction and non-fiction.

Koko the Gorilla knows
more than 2000 words—
Need I top that to show
I'm the smartest chimp?

Auditioned as Caesar to lead
intelligent chimps in the film
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
but they gave it to Andy Serkis.

Finally I've found my focus—
playing the superhero Monkey King
in Journey to the West— can leap
the globe in a single bound & clone

thousands of me to fight enemies—
Iron Man, Spiderman, Thor, The Hulk
want me to join them in Avengers
Ready or not— Here I come!"
