Out with the Old, In with the New

Goodbye 2020— perfect eyesight
turned out to be a disaster year—
Coronavirus-19 shutdown Tokyo
Summer Olympics & spectator sports.

Pandemic with 84 million cases,
1.83 million deaths worldwide,
U.S. leading with 350,000 deaths,
more than in Korea & Vietnam Wars.

Even with Shelter-In-Place and wearing
masks, casualties are high everywhere.
Lots of activities cancelled since March
that I missed going to including

ballroom dancing at Cubberley Pavilion,
classical movies at Stanford Theatre,
poetry reading at Waverley Writers,
browsing books at Los Altos Library.

Out with the old, in with the new—
Welcome the New Year 2021
with a new U.S. President Biden
showing more care & compassion.

But politicians never cured ills
of the world, only sages can guide
us to peace in all circumstances—
this is the path we need to follow.

No crowd will gather for traditional
Ball dropping at Times Square on
New Year's Eve, but musicians will sing
live on TV to welcome in the New Year.

Let us pray that 2021 will bring
more health and happiness—
May we nourish one another with
our inner wealth and be kinder to all.
