Archways


Dramatist Suzan-Lori Parks is fascinated with arches,
living above McDonald's Golden Arches on 6th Ave,
moved to Brooklyn Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch,
now living nearby the Washington Square Park Arch.

My books on symbolism say that archway
combines the square with the circle, leaving
the material realm for higher planes of
the spirit, initiation of being born again.

There are nine archway symbolisms—
Renewal, Rebirth, A New Beginning,
Change, Transformation, Growth,
Progress, Adaptability, Flexibility.

Recall seeing Septimius Severus Arch
in Rome, the Arc de Tromphe in Paris,
but have not seen Kintaikyo Wooden
Arch Bridge in Iwakuni City, Japan.

Archway entrances at Harvard & UC Berkeley,
Roman arched halls at Columbia & Cornell—
passage to higher learning & devotion in
archways to Stanford's Memorial Church.

In Complete Concordance to the Bible:
New King James Version, found 15
"archways" citations in Chapter 40
of Ezekiel, the visionary prophet.

Ezekiel 40:26: "Seven steps led up to it,
and its archway was in front of them;
and it had palm trees on its gateposts,
one on this side and one on that side."
