Joy in Abundance

Birthday Cake (circa 1967)

Can't recall the occasion
when we celebrated
someone's birthday.

Margaret bought a cake
with roses and words—
"Joy in Abundance".

Since I had begun folk dancing
after meeting Martha Graham (1966),
she sliced cake with "dance" for me.

Then "Joy" cake for Dad,
"bun" cake for Mom,
"A" cake for Jimmy.

She cut the cake with rose
for herself since "Rose" was
often used for her middle name.

This event occurred 56 years ago—
but how creative my sister was
slicing that cake for the family!
