Rambling Thoughts on Napoleon

Dad was in Paris for the United Nations
7th Session of the General Assembly (1952).
He bought two miniature toy soldiers—
Soldier with Rifle on Shoulder &
Man in Gray Suit with no weapons.
I took the Soldier, leaving Jimmy with Napoleon.

On the battlefield, Napoleon asked
his physician to heal a wounded soldier.
The doctor said "He's a Russian", and
Napoleon replied "There are no enemies
after the war. We are all men in peace."

Balzac's "Louis Lambert" (1832) classified Napoleon as a "Specialist", one with mystic consciousness. Napoleon turned his head slightly
as bullet passed by his ear. Jesus was a Specialist.
To him, past, present, and future were one.

At Cornell (1963-1970), Prof. Stuart Edelstein of Biochemistry Dept. told me he had read a book about Napoleon at St. Helena, how in his years of exile (1815-1821), he had renovated the estate, gardens, and trees on the island.

Napoleon and his army made along the Alps
through the Great St Bernard Pass in May 1800.
J.L. David painted Napoleon on horseback
(1805), and I worked under this giant portrait at
Stanford Cummings Art Library (2007-2011).

Nostradamus was a French astrologer, physician,
and seer— His 942 poetic quatrains published 1555, predicted the future, hiding messages in anagrams— I love Stewart Robb's Nostradamus on Napoleon (1961)— Montgolfiers balloon (1787); One-eyed King Henri II of France (1559): British King Charles I executed (1649); "PAU. NAY. LORON will be of more fire than blood" (8.1) = NAPAULLON ROY = NAPOLEON KING.
"An Emperor will be born near Italy" (LX).

On December 9, Al Guzman, Rudy, and I saw
the Napoleon film at Shoreline Cinema—
we all enjoyed this epic movie, and afterwards
these thoughts on Napoleon flowed through me.
