"The Fool" Rider-Waite Tarot |
Mountain Images in Tarot Cards Food and fruits on the table offerings to volcanic mountain god on the island of Flores shown on "7 of Cups" in Wheel of Change Tarot found in Rachel Pollack's Guide to Tarot book. Searched in Google Images and located five more Tarot cards depicting mountains. Emily Carding drew Tarot of Black Mountain with giant mermaid floating on swirling stream and mountain range in the background. She also designed Tarot of the Sidhe "Escaping Stagnation" with people drowning but woman rising with arm stretching toward a curvy path leading to purple mountains and a golden sun luminous above its peak. "21 Mountain" from Lenormand Tarot has pile of stones to form an Irish cairn? "Mountain-Strength" created by Stephen Farmer for Earth Magic Oracle Cards cautions us to be vigilant. Be the rock of strength and standing steady like the mountain before scaling its peak. "7 of Keys: The Ascent" from Akashic Tarot shows a man on mountaintop with sun blazing in the background celebrating his climbing success this card encourages us to climb to the heights. Looked through my Rider-Waite Tarot deck only "Fool" (Card 0) & "Lovers" (Card VI) show mountain image in the background A white mountain range is behind "The Fool" and there's a symmetric mountain between "The Lovers" these cards remind me of the song: "Fools give you reasons, wise men never try". Perhaps Dante described it best at the end of Paradiso "by Love that moves the Sun and other stars" and what Sir Edmund Hillary said "It's not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves." Peter Y.
