Lyrics: "The Twelve Days of Christmas"
The Twelve Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me
A partridge in a pear tree...
.
.
On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me:
Twelve drummers drumming
Eleven pipers piping
Ten lords a-leaping
Nine ladies dancing
Eight maids a-milking
Seven swans a-swimming
Six geese a-laying
Five golden rings
Four calling birds
Three French hens
Two turtle doves and
A partridge in a pear tree

On Christmas Eve all children who live in a world where Christmas is
celebrated wake up early. They wake up earlier still on Christmas Day.
But Christmas Eve is the beginning. Magic, in children's lives, lives
in books and dreams and convesations with other children. Sometimes
children have parents who evoke magic by the stories they make up for
them when they are in that sort of good mood.

SEVEN SWANS A-SWIMMING
Seven wild swans are floating
Under a bleak sky, over a waste sea.
Another year comes round, and still
No end to their continual exile here.
These are Lir's children, changed
To wild whooping swans, that whistling call
Their desolate lament. Only a Christian bell, a hermit's bell
Chiming for matins or for evensong
Over the noisy waves, shall break
That black enchantment and restore them
To human form, human companionship.
