1954 World Series Catch
Willie Mays wore uniform #24 playing baseball for the New York Giants (1951-1957), San Francisco Giants (1958-1972), and New York Mets (1972-1973). He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979 in his first year of eligibility. Mays was nicknamed "The Say Hey Kid". Mays ended his career with 660 home runs, 3283 hits, and 1903 RBIs. Mays was considered the greatest all-around baseball player of all-time. Mays hauling in Vic Wertz's drive at the warning track in Game 1 of the 1954 World Series is known as "The Catch" (Video). It prevented Cleveland Indians winning, and allowed the Giants to sweep the Indians in four games, winning the 1954 World Series.
