Preface: Some interesting clouds caught my attention (February 3-4, 2014) as I rushed for Bus #22 on my way to Foothill College. I paused and took photos of these clouds shaped like animals and have assembled them on this page. When I left Mountain View Senior Center (266 Escuela Ave) at 5 pm on January 3, two vertical clouds intersected to form a giant Platonic Lambda Λ which Plato called "Soul of the Universe". A third diagonal cloud intersected with the cloud at right to form a smaller Lambda Λ, so Two Lambda Clouds can be seen. While walking on West El Camino Real at 11:15 am on January 31, 2014, there were cirrus clouds forming the Chinese ideogram rì for "day" () (1, 2). With rapid white brushstrokes surrounding this rectangular "Chinese Day Cloud", it reminds me of Carpe diem from Horace's Odes I.11, and inspired my poem "Carpe Diem— Seize the Day". I've added four cloud photos from the Rancho San Antonio hike (12-6-2013) even though these were two weeks before winter.
