Words & Music Vignettes

1
Violin strings tug at the heart's
pathos and pain— Bereaved mother
asked the Buddha to revive her child
and learned that life is suffering.

2
Bongo drums in a jazz café—
My friend and I dance the tango—
promenade, corté, grapevine weave,
spin turn with dip to a tango close.

3
She recalls her first love aboard
the cruise ship & Sugarloaf Mountain.
She tells him "Why ask for the Moon
when we have the stars."

4
In the dance hall jazz music blasts
from the rattle and drums as singers
croon in Spanish— it's the merengue
and we all dance like drunken sailors.

5
In a luxurious Viennese home
a crowd has gathered to hear this
wild-hair composer from Bonn
who plays his Moonlight Sonata.

6
Elderly Bulgarian women chanting
in a circle dance on the hillside
while ghost clouds rush above them—
the village ancestors have returned.
