Preface: This is the last summer hike since Stanford's Fall Semester begins tomorrow and Green Library will be open on Sunday again. I wanted to see the 1956 War and Peace film at Stanford Theatre at 7:30-11:00 pm (Dad took the whole family to see it when I was a teenager). My friend took me hiking closer by in time for the film showing. Although rain was forecasted today, we didn't encounter any showers on the hike. My friend chose Thornewood Open Space Preserve in Woodside. We hiked here in September 2008 through the Old La Honda Road entrance. This time we hiked on the new Bridle Trail which has many Redwoods. On the Schilling Lake Trail, two butterflies fluttered by among cudweeds (Pearly Everlasting). We visited the 30-foot girth Redwood Sentinel of the forest after a tour of Schilling Lake filled with algae. On the way back, a brush bunny surprised us by hopping out on the trail. My friend dropped me off at an Emerson Street parking lot and I got to Stanford Theatre thirty minutes early. I took photos of the Digital DNA Egg in Lytton Plaza opposite the Theatre and the marquee for War and Peace. After the film, I took photos of Audrey Hepburn and Vivien Leigh in the Stanford Theatre showcase.
