| Preface: Andy Warhol (1923-1987) loved cats, and did many cat paintings before his Pop Art series of Campbell soup cans, Coke bottles, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy silkscreens. As a cat owner, Warhol printed 25 Cats Named Sam and One Blue Pussy (1954), later published as Cats, Cats, Cats (1994). There are 25 cat portraits in this book, where all but one of the felines were named Sam. The artworks were based on the images of famed cat photographer Walter Chandoha, rather than Warhol's own cats. |
