Dear Cathy:

HAPPY 8th ANNIVERSARY!

Here's a Graf Zepplin Postcard postmarked May 8, 1930
from Vienna, Austria to Seville, Spain carried on
a South American flight with Cambio backstamped.

And 15 years later on Tuesday, May 8, 1945, V-E Day was proclaimed
by President Harry S Truman on his 61st birthday (born May 8, 1884).
Here are two Victory Day covers celebrating Liberation of Europe
and postmarked May 8, 1945, 9 AM, Washington D.C.

Then 55 years later (the number is of some interest) on Monday, May 8, 2000,
while I was busy composing a web page on "News On This Day: May 8"
you walked into Foothill College Middlefield Campus Computer Lab.
You asked me about course offerings in computer science and
we learned about our common background in chemistry.
You also knew both my science and spiritual mentors
(Professor Harold Scheraga & Anthony Damiani)
and I knew your first cousin Linda Ruth.
In your first email you told me that
May 8 is your Dad's birthday.
So I remember this day well—
how a complete stranger
becomes a good friend.
So on the 8th anniversary
of the day we met, I send you
this greeting and a special Rose
from Emily Dickinson's garden that
gives bees honey but nourishes us as well.

With well wishes,

Peter
