Preface: My friend from Columbia Engineering '63 and his wife Arlene visited me from Pennsylvania on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. They treated me to a wonderful lunch at Chef Chu in Los Altos. When I suggested going to Shoreline Baylands for some bird viewing, Arlene said "We have something bigger planned— Monterey!" So they drove on Highway 101 South where we stopped an hour in Salinas to visit the National Steinbeck Center. There was a light rain but we went on the scenic 17-Mile Drive. It was my first visit, and I enjoyed the scenic beauty especially the Lone Cypress on the rock. Here are some haikus written that day with accompanying photos.
