Mountain View: Since Bill Russell just died, I wished to share
his "Peak Experience in Basketball" from his book Second Wind Random House, NY (1979), pp. 155-157. Found whole 8.5x11 page typed from the book; It's not online. So need to type this page again. "The game would just take off, and there'd be a natural ebb & flow that reminded you of how rhythmic and musical basketball is."

"On the five or ten occasions when the game ended
at that special level, I literally did not care who had won.
If we lost, I'd still be as free and high as a sky hawk."

pro sports history, Scully saw it all & called it all. Began in 1950s era of Pee Wee Reese & Jackie Robinson, on to 1960s with Don Drysdale & Sandy Koufax, into 1970s with Steve Garvey & Don Sutton, and through 1980s with Orel Hershiser & Fernando Valenzuela. Kirk Gibson's homer on Oct. 15, 1988 in Game 1 of 1988 World Series at bottom of the 9th inning with crippled legs agaist Dennis Eckersley to win 5-4, Scully was silent & let the crowd take over. Scully calls Joe Montana-Dwight Clark "The Catch" on Jan. 10, 1982 to beat Cowboys 28-27.

His melodious voice was so soothing to hear over the radio,
even though it was heartbreaking with the Brooklyn Dodgers
losing to New York Yankees in 1952, 1953, before winning in 1955.

despite his vast knowledge of baseball,
he lets the crowds do the talking in those
