Preface: On Number 67

Stanford Bronze Plaque 67
in honor of Class of 1967
Stanford's Memorial Quad

Stanford Bronze Plaque 67 is on the ground 67 yards to the right of Stanford University's Memorial Church. It is in front of the archway between Buildings 60 & 70. The plaque is dedicated to Class of 1967.

Foothill College Krause Center closing from August 9-September 24, so there will be 46 days without Mac computer to compose web pages using BBEdit. As part of my compilations of Numbers project, web pages on "Number 67" were begun earlier on July 16, 2018 for my friend Cathy's 67th birthday on August 5, 2018. Keeping focus, and using "Number 66" as a template, the 172 entries in "Number 67" were completed in 18 days.

Best By Number: Who Wore What With Distinction (2006) enabled me to include five football players with uniform #67. From Jeremy Baker's Tolstoy's Bicycle (1982), learned that Tolstoy learned to ride a bicycle at age 67. From Tolstoy's Diary (March 15, 1884): "My good moral condition I ascribe to reading Confucius, and especially Lao Tzu. I must complete a cycle of reading for myself: Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, Lao Tzu, Buddha, Pascal, the Gospels.
That is something everybody should do with too." Interesting the authors Tolstoy selected
had cosmic consciousness, something Tolstoy also have experienced. Before dying in France
at age 67 (1519), Leonardo da Vinci wrote about creativity and life that's inspiring to read.

Delightful locating images for "67 in Collectibles, Coins & Postage Stamps", #98-104, including Marvel Comics stamp #67 of Cyclops, #67 Topps cards from Wings, World on Wheels, Look 'n See (Napoleon), & Scoop (1952-1954). There were no U.S. stamps with 67¢, however 67 denomination foreign stamps were found from Mauritania (3), Monaco (2), and France (1). Also included three art stamps from France with 6.70 francs portraying my favorite artists, Monet, Camille Claudel, and Pieter Brueghel. 2018 Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogues were consulted to locate these "67" stamps downloaded from the web using Google images.

Section "67 in Books on Philosophy and Religion" includes items #105-142 from my personal library searching for wisdom quotes from favorite philosophers, saints and sages. Section "67 in Poetry & Literature" includes items #145-171 from my favorite poets and writers, quoting from their poem 67, chapter 67, & page 67. These quotes inspired "Meditations on 67" poem (Notes).

The final item #172 is Numerology: words whose letters add up to 67— Christ Mountain, Dragon Treasure, Eternal Spirit, Garden Bridge, Golden Fountain, Magic Sunflower. May readers of "On Number 67" cross the Garden Bridge, drink from the Golden Fountain, and find the Dragon Treasure and the Eternal Spirit.
