FREE WILL IS NOT SO FREE

when you realize that your karmic debt
is heavier than "the giant tortoise
holding up the earth,"
so proclaimed the old woman
at a William James's lecture.
When he asked her "What
is the tortoise resting on?"
she replied: "It's no use—
it's tortoises
all
the way
down."

Fate is not so fatal
when you know that you can't
call back the arrow
which has left the bow,
but you can take better aim
the next time around. So
tomorrow's fate rests on
today's free will
as the Zen archer hits
the bull's-eye and
sets fate free
all the way down.
