Preface: My best friend from Columbia School of Engineering (1959-1963), Richard Hanauer, came for a visit from Furlong, PA, with his wife Arlene and daughter Jody. I have not gone to Columbia Engineering's 40th Class Reunion (2003) or their 50th Reunion (2013), which Richard attended. So he comes for a visit whenever he comes to the West Coast. Took Richard & Arlene to Stanford on their first visit (2015); They took me for Monterey's 17-Mile Drive (10-16-2007), and nice hike at San Francisco's Muir Woods (11-21-2009). This time, they visited Calgary Canada, before coming to California. Watched video (May 21, 2:00-2:20 am) by Richard & Arlene on
their 2018 trip to Chile Fjords, glaciers collapse, Cape Horn, world's southernmost city, Ushuaia; and Iguazu Falls (Argentina-Brazil). On July 14, 2022, from Mountain View, we went to Safeway, where I treated them to fruits & salads on my Cal-Fresh card for a picnic lunch. Richard drove to Monterey's 17-Mile Drive (12 pm-2:45 pm). He received a flyer "17-Mile Drive and the 17 Points of Interest" when he paid $11.25 fee at the entrance booth. He gave me the flyer to navigate us as he drove along. Here are the 17 sites of interest (1) Shepherd's Knoll; (2) Huckleberry Hil; (3) Spanish Bay Beach; (4) The Restless Sea; (5) Point Joe; (6) China Rock; (7) Bird Rock; (8) Seal Rock; (9) Fan Shell Beach Overlook; (10) Cypress Point Lookout; (11) Crocker Grove; (12) The Lone Cypress; (13) Ghost Trees at Pescadero Point; (14) Pebble Beach Visitor Center; (15) Pebble Beach Golf Links; (16) Pebble Beach Equestrian Center; (17) Ford Meadow. We did not visit all the sites. Coming back, as Arlene drove on Hwy 1 North Monterey, Richard phoned Chef Chu's for reservation @ 7:45 pm, but we didn't get back to Los Altos unti 8:10 pm. Nevertheless we had a hearty dinner after a wonderful hike.
Didn't have a watch (until August 11, 2022); Canon Camera Timer not set, so no time when photos were taken (between 3 pm to 6 pm).
