Giant Wide Toyon Pine Tree

I sit at the computer too much writing haikus every day inspired by music, films, poetry, and interesting readings. One of my friends who has taken me on Bay Area hikes when Foothill College Computer Labs were closed, has back pains, so we hardly made any hikes this year. To make up for this deficiency, I'm including two talks at Stanford on Peregrine and Raptors because J.A. Baker hiked ten years in Essex observing peregrine and ornothologist Hans Peeters surveyed raptors in California for 30 years. I've typed passages from film director Werner Herzog's book Of Walking In Ice (1978) on his three-week walking pilgrimage from Munich to Paris (23 November-14 December 1974) to save his mentor Lotte Eisner's life. His heroic endeavor inspired my poem "Walking Pilgrimages" (4-18-2016). My Notes to Poem honors the pilgrimages of Descartes, Shivapuri Baba, and those on Shikoku Pilgrimage and Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage. While I've not undertaken such lengthy pilgrimages, some of the walks I've taken were done as part of my philosophical quest for enlightenment. I honor my spiritual mentors who have brought me much illuminations and blessings. Note: Lost my 12 GB USB with 16 months of work at Los Altos Library (August 28, 2016) without backup. Need to recompose web pages below from hard copies. (P.Y. Chou, WisdomPortal.com) |
