Guadalupe River Trail Hike San Jose, California Monday, January 20, 2014 By Peter Y. Chou WisdomPortal.com |
Preface: On Monday, January 20, 2014, Martin Luther King Day, Foothill College Computer Labs were closed. Los Altos Library and Mountain View Senior Center were also closed. Without access to computers, my friend told me it's a good day to go hiking. We went to the Guadalupe River Trail (wikipedia) in San Jose and parked in the VTA River Oaks parking lot (2:28 pm). At the right side of the trail was a massive Riverview Apartments complex construction. The noise subsided further along the trail and many bikers and joggers were enjoying the paved trail. When my friend decided to go back after an hour, I ventured to the lower dirt gravel trail near the Guadalupe River for a more scenic view. Around 3:40 pm, I met a hiker John Hallahan who worked at MKS (134 W. Rio Robles Drive), near the trail. He's an avid hiker and we chatted for 15 minutes. I told him about passing by Creative Labs in Milpitas on the Coyote Creek Hike, and insights on the Platonic Lambda, Λ. When I asked him what MKS stands for, he said "Milligrams, Kilometers, Seconds". Later came across an obstacle path of water too wet and wide to cross (4:05 pm). I climbed up the 45o slope to avoid this short stretch, and descended back to the dirt trail. A pair of Monterey Pine greeted me at the end of the hike (4:24 pm). Below are 39 photos from today's Guadalupe River Trail hike. Some favorite photos Row of Buddings on Branch, Sun Dipping in River, Roots Thirsting for Guadalupe River. |
