LINC-405: Spring 2022
Beginning Technology Skills |
Preface:
On May 25, 2022, 6:00-6:30 pm, in LINC-405 Zoom class
Skills Workshop with William Cavada, he showed how to embed videos. He used Google Forms, Google Sheets, and Google Slides to embed the videos. Also used timer to shorten videos to show relevant section. Decide to download videos of Joc Pederson's 3-homer game against the Mets when they won an unbelievable game 13-12. Next videos were from Golden State Warriors NBA Western Conference Finals vs. the Dallas Mavericks Andrew Wiggins' dunk over Luka Doncic; Draymond Green's surprise reaction of his foul shot with basketball stuck on rim. Pinterest sends two emails daily on interesting photos based on images downloaded earlier. On May 29, received video of "Three Bears Waiting on top of Waterfalls to Catch Sockeye Salmon". Last videos were from Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959) with some favorite scenes from this film. After doing "Embedding Videos" in HTML, replicated it in Google Slides. ************************************************************************************* 1. Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Unfortunately, I couldn't view his talk in Zoom session as my password didn't work. Attempt to reset my password three times with Zoom were unsuccessful. On June 1 LINC-405 Q&A Session with Kim Randall, she said Cavada needs to adjust his Zoom settings so I could see his talk without any password. Cavada made the adjustment and it worked. In Google Sheets, Cavada showed how we could place video clips of our favorite movies in the first column, then lists Date, Director, Actors, Awards, in the other columns. In Google Forms, he showed how we could enlarge images & videos imported, so those who receive them won't deat with smaller images. In Google Slides, he showed where we could set a timer for videos shown. He asked for my favorite poet, and I said Rumi. He typed Rumi in YouTube, and downloaded "Rumi: Powerful Wisdom Quotes". This video is 16 minutes long. Cavada placed timer between 1:00 and 2:00 "Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion. What you seek is seeking you. Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself. You were born with wings. Why prefer to crawl through life."

miraculous win over the NY Mets in the 9th inning. Associated Press News reporter Michael Wagmaan wrote: "San Francisco Giants outslugged the New York Mets 13-12 in one of the wildest games imaginable." Watch the videos of Pederson's 3 homers,
3. NBA Western Conference Finals: Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks
were exciting to listen to on 95.7 FM radio and track in Yahoo Sports online. Video of Andrew Wiggins' dunk over Luka Doncic was delightful to watch as he scored 27 points in 109-100 win in Game 3 at Dallas. In Game 4, Draymond Green's reaction to his foul shot stuck on the rim was fun to watch.
4. Three Bears on Waterfalls Waiting for Sockeye Salmon
On May 29, received video of "Three Bears Waiting on Top of Waterfalls to Catch Sockeye Salmon". In 1993, Thomas Mangelson had a gift shop in Palo Alto's University Ave. I bought a box of his Nature Photographs, containing "Catch of the Day" (1988), often called "the most famous wildlife photograph in the world." Wrote poem "Three Bears Waiting" (6-1-2022) in seeing a video of this classic photograph. |
5. Videos of Hitchcock's North by Northwest
North by Northwest Poster by Alfred Hitchcock (1959) |
Cary Grant at Art Auction in North by Northwest |
Eve Shoots Roger Thornhill in Cafeteria at Mount Rushmore |
Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959) is one of
my favorite films. Found clips from some of my favorite scenes. Cary Grant's hilarious performance in the art auction house making ridiculous bids to get arrested by police to escape the goons James Mason sent to abduct him again. The episode inside the Mount Rushmore Cafeteria was a highlight in the film when Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) shoots Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant). Only later, we learn that the bullets were blanks, that she's a CIA agent tracking Vandamme (James Mason). The finale chase scene on Mount Rushmore was suspenseful. |
