Preface:
Paulson Park sponsored a visit to the San Francisco Zoo on Tuesday, August 27, 2019,
with Free Bus Trip, Admission to Zoo, and Free Lunch. The sign-up list was quickly
filled. I told my neighbor Don Richards to sign up on the waiting list, and we were
lucky to be included. It was foggy when the bus reached San Francisco, but the day
cleared up when we toured the zoo. We were told to return to the bus by 1:45 pm and
get home by 3:00 pm. Adult fee is $23, Seniors 65+ $19; Children(4-14) $17. Zahira Pena said
she negotiated a lower fee for the 46 seniors making the visit. The management paid,
so we got in free.
I wanted to see the
Maguari Stork last seen here on 1-24-2007.
However, its
longevity is 20.4 years.
The one seen 12 years ago is no longer here.
Couldn't find it in the South American Aviary
cages & was 7 minutes late for 1:45 pm bus return;
Zahira did head count "45" and knew I was missing.
Don Richards and I walked together
in the Zoo (10:40 am to 1:00 pm) seeing
Lemur Forest, African
Savannah for Giraffes, Zebras,
Ostriches, Crowned-Cranes,
and Gorillas. Told Don we've
only covered 1/3 of the Zoo,
and should eat our lunch on the bus home.
But he was hungry and ate his turkey sandwich
and drank on the bench by Penguin Island, while I went to
see the Komodo Dragon, then searched for the
Maguari Stork cage.
We never made it to the
"Tigers, Lions, and Bears, Oh My!",
a line from "The Wizard of Oz" (1939 film). Our 56-passengers Limousine Tour Bus took Highway 280 & El Camino Real back arriving home 15 minutes early at 2:45 pm. Here are 87 photos of the San Francisco Zoo excursion, with the time recorded on my Canon Power Shot A590 Digital Camera. |
