| Preface: On June 12, 2011, Stanford had its 120th Commencement. I usually take the Stanford Shuttle on Sunday to Green Library, but it was closed for Intersession. So my friend took me to Santa Teresa County Park in downtown San Jose for our first hike this Spring. We had come here on March 29, 2009, and visited the Santa Teresa Spring (photo) and farm animals at Bernal-Gulnac-Joice Ranch. Today's hike began with a steep uphill climb on the Joice Trail. My friend told me that she saw a whole hillside of yellow flowers here in Spring 2009. Today, most of the flowers were gone, except for Buckeye Flowers, Clarkia (Farewell to Spring), California Poppies, White and Golden Yarrow, and Mariposa Lilies. A hawk flew across the sky as well as a flock of birds on our way down the hill. The white and brown chickens near the entrance were popular with children, so I photographed them at the beginning and end of our three-hours hike. |
