Preface:
On Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, Al Guzman picked me up at 8 am at my Mountain View apartment.
Drove to Hometown Buffet (2670 El Camino Real) in Santa Clara for breakfast. Since the "Alpha" film at Cinelux Almaden Café & Lounge (2306 Almaden Rd, San Jose) doesn't start until 1:30 pm, we had enough time for a small hike. Al drove to San Jose and parked at Lincoln & California Ave. There was Willow Glen Elementary School across the street, and went over for several photos of their schoolyard garden and students art mosaics on the wall. At the corner of Lincoln & Minnesota Ave was the Chase Bank, with large murals that I learned later were painted by Millard Sheets (1907-1989). Holly Barr documents the five murals done, of which I've photographed three. She also describes the Mother & Child done by John Edward Svenson. Walking down Lincoln Ave, noticed many cars with their hoods up. A passerby told me it's the 11th Annual Auto Show "Cruise for a Cause" ran by the Goombahs Car Club. Joseph Geha wrote about this event in the Mercury News (9-10-2018, B1, B6). Took 9 photos of these vintage photos that took awhile to identify in Google Images. Our hour and half walk brought us back in time for the 1:30 pm showing of Alpha at Cinelux Almaden Theatre. |
